Senior Yale Klat qualified for the state championships held at Syracuse University March 8 with a second place finish at the state qualifiers Feb. 8, at Farmingdale. Klat ran his personal best time of 9:58. Another South performer at the qualifier's was sophomore Josh Merlis running the 1600 meters in 4:47.4, good for sixth place. Senior Scott Muscmeci placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 42'3 3/4".

At the states, Klat placed 23 out of 29 qualifiers with a time of 10:04.9. "I did not feel that great during the race. I had a tough time feeling comfortable the whole way," stated Klat. "It was a great experience qualifying for the states this past season. It will help this spring when I hope to qualify for the 3000 meter steeplechase," continued Klat. Yale placed second for a Class B school and will be returning as the top seed this spring.
