The Great Neck North boys track team under coaches Adam McKenzie and Peter Hugo ended their season at the Nassau County championships held at Mitchel Field May 19 and 20. North sent the 4x800 relay and it placed third. The quartet consisted of junior Ricky Broomes and sophomores Jason Berke and Izzi Henriquez, and freshman Mike Yellin. Their time was 9:05 on a windy day. Roosevelt won the meet.

At the division championships held at the Merchant Marine Academy May 13 North placed seventh with 13 points. Broomes placed sixth in the 400 m dash in good time of 57.1 Broomes came back and ran the 4x800 relay in a personal best time of 2:11. Yellin led off the relay team in a personal best time of 2:13. Henriquez ran his personal best of 2:07.6 and Berke anchored the team with a blazing time of 2:04 and the team placed second in a time of 8:36. "This relay team was the highlight of the season," echoed both coaches Hugo and McKenzie. "With that relay team all returning, this group can have a special year," continued Hugo and McKenzie. The 4x400 was the last scoring event for North. Senior Ronan Khordipour junior Steve Reciti, Yellin and sophomore Alex Roberts running his personal best time of 59.4. Team placed fourth in a time of 3:52.5. Other fine performances at the meet was turned in by senior Allen Eshomoili who ran the 100 in 12.6 and ran the 400 in 60.3. Freshman John Pollack has been coming on strong lately running the 100 in 12.8, and the 200 in 26.6. Freshman Elliot Ross ran well in the 200 clocking in a 26.4.

At the Gold Cost Relays held at Manhasset May 14 the high jump relay team Henriquez and Broomes came in first with leaps of 5'8 and 5'6. The sprint medlay team of Eshomoili, Broomes, Henriquez and Ross placed third in a time of 3:58. The 4x100 relay team of Eshomoili, Reciti, Ross and freshman Dan Saketkhou placed third.

This year's team was the smallest ever with only 13 members. Reciti and senior Mike Negari were the captains. Mike Negari, Allen Eshomoili and Ronan Khordipour will graduate. Khordipour and Eshomoili are first year seniors. The team has a good nucleus, and with help from the junior high should see improvements.
