The Great Neck North boys soccer team under coach Jon Folber won their first game of the young season by defeating Carle Place 5-1 Friday, Sept. 25. The story of the game was a well balanced attack in which five different players scored.

North opened the scoring with senior Peter Iuccolino setting the pace with a goal within the first five minutes. Three minutes later, freshman Nick Palumbo scored off a pass from Iuccolino. Senior Michael Goldberg ended the first half scoring with goal assisted by sophomore Pedro Cervantes.
The Frogs opened the second half with a goal in the first 10 minutes. The Blazers responded with a goal by junior Dana Boskoff who received a precision pass from senior Marcos Gonzalez. North's final goal of the game came with 10 minutes left to play off the foot of Cervantes assisted by Goldberg. Junior goalie Justin Glaser made eight saves.
North opened the season Sept. 17 with a tough loss to Calhoun by the score of 2-0. Plainedge defeated North 4-2 Sept. 19. Goldberg and sophomore John Chavkin scored for the Blazers. "Every game is a tough game for us," explained Chavkin. North moved up to Conference 3 from 4 last year. North will play at New Hyde Park Sept. 28 followed by a home game Oct. 3 against North Shore. North Shore, New Hyde Park and Glen Cove all moved up a conference with the Blazers. North's record stands at 1-2.
Other members of the varsity squad are: seniors Jason Gold, Roee Nahmani, Brett Nidell, Ceasar Flores and Luis Veliz. The juniors consisted of Allen Burd, Brett Kaplan, Leor Rabe, Jose Portillo, Brian Teppel and Doron Yaghevbi. The sophomore group contains Andrew Horowitz, Jon Pollock and Jose Portillo. Gold, Goldberg, Iucclino and Gonzales are the captains.
