The Mariners played their last game before the holiday break on Thursday, Dec. 10 in Manhattan against the New York University Violets. Kings Point was on fire at the start of the first half, jumping out to a 16 point advantage and holding NYU to just eight points for the first 16 minutes of play. The Violets, losing 24-8 at 4:48, gained back some momentum in front of their home crowd and held the Blue and Grey scoreless the rest of the first stanza, cutting the lead to 24-18 at the break.

In the second half, NYU exploded and shot the lights out, nailing 64 percent of their shots from the floor (16-25) and 72.7 percent from behind the arc (8-11). The Violets took their first lead of the game, 31-30, at 16:22 on a three-pointer by Gunner Winston. NYU increased their lead to as many as 13 points and won the game 63-52. Junior center Mike Hyland (White Plains, NY) turned in the Blue and Gray's top performance with 19 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Johnny Garrett (Missouri City, TX) and senior forward Sean Bradley (Toms River, NJ) added 13 and 10 points respectively. Bradley had eight rebounds in the game.

The Blue and Gray are outscoring their opponents by a 15.4 point per game margin (70.3-54-9). Kings Point is shooting 46.3 percent from the field (181-391), 30.4 percent from three-point land (41-135), and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line (89-140). The Mariners are currently being led by Sean Bradley who is tallying 15.0 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game. Mike Hyland is second on the team in scoring with 13.0 ppg and third in rebounding with 4.6 rpg, while Johnny Garrett is third in scoring (10.1 ppg) and second in rebounding (5.0 rpg.) Senior point guard Ryan Robinson (Marietta, OH) and freshman Kevin Bernick (Toms River, NJ) are adding 7.4 and 7.1 points per game respectively.

Senior point guard Ryan Robinson is rapidly approaching the 100-career point plateau. Entering this season, Robinson had scored 854 points in his career. In 1998-99 he has tallied 52 points, bringing that total to 906 points. Averaging 7.4 points per game, Robinson is on pace to surpass the 1,000-point mark in late January. At the start of this season, Sean Bradley ranked fifth on the All-Time scoring list for Kings Point, entering the 1998-99 campaign with 1,488 points. In the first seven games of the season, he has registered 105 points and now has 1,593 career points, moving him to the fourth spot on the All-Time List. He is 67 points shy of making the jump to the third spot.

Sean Bradley surpassed both the career marks for made free shows and attempted free throws. He currently has made 401 career free throws breaking the All-Time record of 392 held by Bob McNamee (1980-85). He also has tallied 592 free throw attempts in his career, surpassing Kevin D'Arcy's mark of 589 set from 1985-90. Over break, the Blue and Gray will travel to Marietta, OH to compete in the Shrine Club Basketball Tournament at Marietta College. The Mariners will depart the Academy by bus on Sunday, Dec. 27. The Mariners will be staying at the LaFayette Hotel while in Ohio. Kings Point will face Marietta in their first round game on Monday, Dec. 28 at 8 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 29, the team will play in either the tournament's championship game (8 p.m.) or consolation game (6 p.m.) against either the Calvin College Knights or the St. Vincent College Bearcats. The Calvin team will be traveling in from Grand Rapids, MI, and St. Vincent makes the trip from Latobe, PA.
