Elliot Rosenblatt has assumed the leadership of the Great Neck Chamber of Commerce. He was installed as president on Jan. 20, promising to ''propose new activities to promote business in the retail, commercial, and professional environment, increase our membership, provide additional benefits to our members, and to invest our energy and resources on the Great Neck peninsula.''

Acknowledging that it will be ''a challenge to follow in the footsteps'' of past presidents David Lurie, Marilyn Benson, and Robert Goldfarb, all of whom have helped the Chamber make ''tremendous strides in its mission to promote business and economic growth and development on the Great Neck peninsula,'' Mr. Rosenblatt is surely up to the challenge. A CPA who practices in highly specialized areas of tax and finance, he has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce for the last seven years, including time as first vice president and executive board member.

Deeply involved with the infrastructure of the Great Neck community for many years, Mr. Rosenblatt looks forward to really putting the Chamber of Commerce on the map. Included in his plans actually is a map, a map that will work along with the Chamber's ''Shop in Great Neck'' campaign. This completely new map will be distributed, free of charge, all over town, in banks, in village halls, in real estate offices, at the library. In addition to the 20,000 maps to be given away, the map will also be posted on the Chamber's website. Along the same lines, the Chamber will also be updating a book, Living & Working in Great Neck, also free of charge, ideal for those who want to live and work in Great Neck.

The new Chamber president also anticipates increasing the very popular business card exchange events, probably to four times a year. --- It was Elliot Rosenblatt who coined the term ''Great Neckworking,'' used in conjunction with such events. And he is planning lots more for Great Neck --- all sorts of increased promotions and marketing to go along with the ''Shop in Great Neck'' campaign, expansion of the Chamber website and web links, a job resource center, a new member incentive plan, ''establishment of a public relations and publicity discipline,'' speakers who will address important business issues, reinforcing the Chamber's business partnership with the Great Neck Village Business Association and with the incorporated villages, expansion of the activities of the We Care Committee, and obtaining grants for Chamber activities.

Mr. Rosenblatt highlighted certain other very exciting plans, one of which is the establishment of a member affinity program where members receive discounts from one another. ''This could be a real savings for members,'' he stated. Also, he is happily continuing with the very successful Chamber of Commerce brick commemorative walkway project which he started. Here individuals or businesses can purchase a brick, with their name or in memory of someone else, for the walkway in front of the Chamber kiosk at the railroad station. To add to the excitement, Mr. Rosenblatt and Bonnie D. Graham filmed a public access television commercial (for channel 49) telling all about this project.

This walkway was a ''first'' for Great Neck, and is just one of Mr. Rosenblatt's ''theme'' plans. The business card exchange events already feature themes --- depending on the event, those wearing a star, or a pumpkin, or a flower, or such would receive a special gift.

In addition to the walkway commercials, the ''theme'' idea has also been present on local cable television in the form of ''ChamberVision,'' Mr. Rosenblatt's and Ms. Graham's show highlighting local businesses, ''presenting businesses in this town that we believe make Great Neck unique.'' This show was created and produced by Mr. Rosenblatt and Ms. Graham --- ''a tremendous effort.''

Working on many Chamber committees and supporting many other Chamber activities, Mr. Rosenblatt also reviews the Chamber's monthly newsletter, the Sign Post, and heads the trolley committee. The ''Shop in Great Neck'' trolley comes to town twice a year, in June and December, offering free rides up and down Middle Neck Road, sporting local ads. Coming from Riverhead each day, the trolley lost an ad on one trip. The ad was found along the way and a local real estate office received a call in response to the ''run-a-way ad.''

All along the Chamber has been involved in Great Neck's White House Millennium Community program, and Mr. Rosenblatt promises that the raffle, the scholarship, and the video are all still on track.

Elliot Rosenblatt and his family have been Great Neck residents for 20 years, and his accounting practice is also in town. With a CPA and an MBA, his practice includes finance and investments, tax planning and preparation, financial planning, financial and business consulting, and assisting companies in financial distress.

Explaining that he ''wanted to really do something in the community,'' he has volunteered time and efforts across the board. In addition to his Chamber of Commerce activities, Mr. Rosenblatt belongs to several traditional CPA organizations, and, locally, he also serves as treasurer of the Great Neck Lawyers Association, a director for the Great Neck United Community Fund, and a member of the CLASP advisory board. In the Village of Great Neck, he is a member of the village's architectural review committee, as well as the village's liaison to the cable commission and representative on the Public Access Television Corporation board.

As he is anxious to see the Great Neck Chamber of Commerce grow and become more visible, promoting business and enriching Great Neck, this community can be sure that we will be seeing much of Elliot Rosenblatt and his good work in the months and years to come.
