Although State Comptroller Carl McCall was given many openings to announce his candidacy for governor of New York State at the Great Neck Lawyers Association annual installation dinner dance on Feb. 5, his only announcement was that he was delighted to be attending the event. Officials at the Village of Great Neck, ''the Old Village,'' have decided that it is time to gather up all old papers and photographs and begin to document a meaningful history of the village. Mayor Steve Tell has appointed a historical committee headed by former Mayor Isabel Varlotta and including a few interested residents of the village. One committee member is actually an archivist and one member is a resident of the peninsula who has already done extensive work regarding the history of Great Neck. FULL STORY
