Robert Zimmerman has been named a managing chair of the New York State Steering Committee for the Gore presidential campaign. The Gore campaign touts Mr. Zimmerman's appointment as ''an important step...to win the New York Democratic primary for president...''

DiNapoli and Balboni Defend NY Waters
If our state legislators, Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli and Senator Michael Balboni, are successful in spearheading the passage of a jointly sponsored bill, the sale of gasoline containing methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in New York State will be prohibited by 2004. On Valentine's Day the State Assembly passed the bill and as we go to press it has had three readings on the Senate side. Indeed, the Long Island delegation has been united in opposition to the continued use of MTBE. In a news release Assemblyman DiNapoli said, ''Congress has not yet acted on this important and timely water quality issue, and given the magnitude of MTBE contamination in the state, we must begin this process immediately.''

South Girls Track Recap
The State Qualifiers was held at SUNY Farmingdale Feb. 18. Junior Shenita McPhatter qualified for the NY State Indoor Track Championships for the 2nd straight year by placing 3rd in the 300M dash. Her time was clocked at 43.5. Her 3rd place finish will put her in the sectional relay where she will compete in the 200. The 3rd place finish in the 600, 1000, and 1500 will round out the distance medley relay. McPhatter also competed in the 55 M dash, but failed to reach the finals.

Great Neck North Girls Track Recap
The Great Neck North Girls Track Team finished out the 1999-2000 season was a success. The team finished 3rd in the Conference Championships scoring 61 points. The meet started with a bang. In the 3000 meter run, junior Mari Chen placed 2nd and sophomore Meredith Schloss placed 3rd in 13:18, and 13:40 respectively. Freshman Rebecca Benelyahou placed 6th.
