As the Great Neck peninsula suffers from massive over-development and the continuous loss of open space, the Great Neck Park District is fighting to save the waterfront property at the George M. Cohan estate in Kings Point. Much is at stake --- not just preserving this wonderful piece of open space on the water for all to enjoy, but also the preservation of our local laws and the right of the public to expect that these laws be followed.

We have stated it before and we will state it again: Villages must not allow every variance requested by every builder! The villages must look to the best interest of their constituents, and not the best interest of the developers!

On Tuesday evening, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m., at Great Neck House, the park district is holding a public hearing to determine if there is public support for a bond issue in order to acquire the property. We urge each and every resident, park district member or not, to come out and speak out for open space!

This is an opportunity for each and every one of us to let our local officials know for sure that we will not just stand by and watch anyone trample on our laws and on our land.
