United Community Fund Campaign Begins
Back in 1954, the United Community Fund, got off the ground with $1000 in hand, $3000 in loans, and a small army of volunteers who made approximately 12,000 house to house calls in that first year raising $100,000. Based on that standard and factoring in the consumer price index, between then and now, the fund should raise $600,000. But the yearly contributions have stubbornly hovered between $300,000 and $400,000 in spite of concentrated efforts on the part of dedicated volunteers to boost the numbers.

Steppingstone Park/Cohan Estate Public Hearing
The board of commissioners of the Great Neck Park District is holding a public hearing on Tuesday evening, Sept. 26, regarding a proposed bond issue to finance an expansion of Steppingstone Park. The park district is seeking to purchase the waterfront property at the former estate of George M. Cohan, property neighboring Steppingstone Park that is now owned by a private developer.

Kings Point USMMA Weekly Sports Wrap-up
The Mariners fell to Springfield College by a 47-12 final score on September 16, Plebe Acceptance Day at the Academy. The Pride of Springfield gained 531 yards total offense for a 10.6-yard per play average en route to the victory. This is the first time that the Mariners have begun the season at 0-3 since 1988.
