Old Village Attacks Litter Problem
Responding to complaints regarding litter and the condition of the main streets of the Old Village, Village of Great Neck officials tightened up a local law, clarifying and expanding the definition of litter. This amendment to the village code was passed into law at the board of trustee's Dec. 5 meeting.

Plaza Restricts Driving/Cell Phone Use
As of April 1, 2001, talking on a cellular telephone while driving a car in the Village of Great Neck Plaza will be restricted. A driver may only use a cell phone if it is equipped with a hands-free device, unless an emergency call is required. Suffolk County has passed such legislation, and, just recently, the Nassau County Legislature broached the subject. New York City is also considering such a law.

Kings Point Weekly Sports Update
The men's basketball team suffered a setback this past week, dropping two non-conference games to Coast Guard and New York University. On Wednesday, Dec. 6, the United States Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team suffered their third straight setback as Academy arch-rival Coast Guard defeated the Mariners, 73-64, in Liebertz Gymnasium. The game was marked by a poor free-throw performance and turnovers for the Blue and Gray offense. Kings Point shot a season-low 38.5 percent from the charity stripe and turned the ball over 19 times.
