Ruth Stanton Blumenthal died on April 23, 2004 at the Forest at Duke, Durham, NC where she had been a resident for nine years. She was born in Boston, MA on June 12, 1917 to Abraham Stanton and Ida Gallant Stanton. She graduated from Girls Latin School in Boston and later attended Queens College and Queensboro Community College in New York where she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing. Mrs. Blumenthal lived in Great Neck for many years and worked as a registered nurse at a number of area hospitals before retiring to West Palm Beach, FL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Arthur Blumenthal, by her sisters Sylvia Riback and Leila Stanton, and by her brothers Edwin and Bert Stanton. She is survived by her daughter, Leda Blumenthal of Atlanta, GA, and her son James Blumenthal of Chapel Hill and his wife Daphne, granddaughter Marisa, and step grandchildren Anne and John McKee. She touched the lives of many with her beauty, kindness, keen wit, and love of life, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. There will be a memorial service at the Forest at Duke on Sunday, May 2 at 4 p.m. in the Ritz Theater. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Forest at Duke.
