The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy volleyball team has now won five consecutive matches, following its 3-1 home victory over John Jay Thursday night, Sept. 16, at Liebertz Gymnasium. Scores by game were: 30-17, 25-30, 30-12 and 32-30.

Head coach Heather Stone used her entire bench in the contest, mainly in the last part of the first game and most of the second game. Eight members of the Mariners (5-1) recorded kills on the night, while seven Blue and Gray players contributed to a team total of 21 service aces.

Junior tri-captain Holly Cummings (Alexandria, Ind./Alexandria) led all scorers with 16 kills on the night, while also digging eight balls on defense. Freshman setter Katerina Jablonski (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) set 29 assists, while hitting six service aces. Junior tri-captain Janine Wachter (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) had a match-high seven aces and a team-high 10 digs in the victory.

For the Bloodhounds (0-3), Julie Dixon led the way with nine kills, while Beata Chojnowska added eight kills and 10 digs. Setter Lisa Cubair registered a match-high 12 digs to go with 19 assists.
