Barbara Berkowitz New School Board President
As she begins her 15th year on the board of education, Barbara Berkowitz assumes the post of president, elected by her fellow trustees at the board's July 6 organizational meeting. Recently re-elected as a trustee, Ms. Berkowitz follows Lawrence Gross, who just finished another term as president. Judi Bosworth once again was elected vice president. Several years ago, Ms. Berkowitz served as vice president for then-president Judi Bosworth.

Junior Regatta Benefits Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation
Young sailors from the various local yacht clubs will compete in the third annual "A Regatta to Remember," on July 16, to benefit the Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation (LIAF). Hosted by Manhasset Bay Yacht Club (MBYC), the day is sure to be fun-filled for the young competitors to show-off their racing prowess, while raising money for an important cause. "It's important that the kids have fun, but it's equally important that they learn to do something for the community," said MYBC Commodore Robert Prokop. The regatta will include several races, with Pixel, 420, Laser, Laser Radial, Blue Jay, and Optimist classes competing in separate events in Manhasset Bay.

Weekday Sunrise Cycling
Great Neck cycling enthusiasts are invited to meet at 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, at the corner of Grace Avenue and Bond Street, for four-and-a-quarter hour local bicycle rides, at a minimum average speed of 13 mph. Routes and distances vary according to the group; rain cancels the ride. The rides continue until November.
