On a bright and sunny Sunday morning in Great Neck, 16 Grizzlies, participated in a fierce game of soccer. The 11-year-old Grizzlies played with attitude and determination on the Great Neck North High School field, leading them to a powerful 3-0 victory against Oceanside. The Grizzlies have been practicing twice a week, and evidently their hard work is beginning to pay off under the leadership of co-managers, Tony Mirkov and Don Haber and trainer "Tarl."
After last year's loss in the final for the State Cup Championship, the Grizzlies have been eager to put all of their heart into capturing this year's title, making them the second team ever to win the State Cup for Great Neck.
There was brilliant goal play by Adam Haber, who made a few key stops and directed the flow of the game, ultimately leading to the team's triumph. Just as brilliant was the performance of the defense. The defense was rock solid, led by Jonathan Mata, Ben Todaro, Jeff Talasazan, and Justin Robeny.
The first goal in the game was scored by tenacious, mid fielder, Brett Kleinberg. He was set up wonderfully with a picture perfect cross from Max Fish. The second goal was scored by stopper Justin Robeny, who, after receiving the ball from Jamy Baron, utilized his dribbling skills to maneuver away from the opponents to make room for a lightning- quick shot. The final shot was scored by Jeffrey Talasazan from outside of the box with a rocket powered shot.
Other notable performances occurred during the game. There was strong midfield play from both the offensive and defensive sides. This was led by Eric Mirkov, Max Fish, Brett Kleinberg, Mor Sharabani, Matthew Metros and Daniel Zaretsky. Jamy Baron, Justin Hendler, Daniel Narango, Charlie Roofeh, and Nir Sachar came off the bench and showed tremendous amount of effort, energy, and tenacity which was key to the team's performance. Great Neck wishes you all the luck in the State Cup Championship!
