Ruth Messinger, 12-year member of the New York City Council (the lawmaking body of the City of New York), former Manhattan Borough President, and currently president of the American Jewish World Service (AJWS), will be the guest speaker at Temple Beth-El during its joint Shabbat service with Temple Israel on Friday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m.

Apartment Buildings, 120 Units, Proposed in Old Village
The potential for increased density with its handmaiden, worsening traffic, was pitted against the exigent need for housing for the peninsula's volunteer first responders at the Nov. 21 meeting of the Village of Great Neck Board of Trustees. The village hall meeting room was filled to the rafters with the usual attendees plus a cadre of residents from surrounding villages and volunteer firefighters and emergency medical workers.
