Shayna, Amanda, Hannah and Marcie Zeitlin were awarded a spot at the 2008 Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships held at Steamboat Springs, Colorado on March 13-16. Each of the Zeitlins qualified by earning a top-three ranking in their age division at Snowmass and Aspen Highlands. They competed against the fastest recreational skiers and snowboarders in North America for National titles.
Participants represented 107 Nature Valley NASTAR Resort and 44 states. Rusted Root rocked the opening ceremony as Steamboat's legendary champagne powder fell from the sky. The skiing was great and the race conditions were perfect for participants to chase the pace set by some of the best American ski racers of all time including Phil Mahre, Deb Armstrong, AJ Kitt, Kristina Koznick, Chad Fleischer and Kaylin Richardson. A giant diamond vision screen showed racing action throughout the event in the sponsor village.
During the raffles on Friday night, Amanda won a pair of Goode ski poles. Marcie won the grand prize raffle of Goode ski poles, Swans googles, and a pair of Goode skis. The last night was capped with a gondola ride to the top of Steamboat Mountain after the sun set. The views were breathtaking. It is truly a terrific family experience to socialize with the ski champions and Olympians. The ski stars are friendly, approachable, and offer autographs and photographs. It makes the children enjoy the sport even more! They are great role models.
Shayna made it to the podium in the Silver age 7-8 division placing third. Amanda finished eighth in the Silver age 9-10 division. Hannah placed tenth in the Gold 11-12 division. Marcie made it to the podium in the Silver age 35-39 division placing third. Marcie's niece, Jorgi Mandelbaum, competed in the Gold age 7-8 and placed third.
