Steppingstone Park July 4th Concert

At 8 p.m. the Great Neck Park District’s Steppingstone Park July 4th Concert will feature The Band of Long Island, with Michael Flamhaft conducting. The concert will include traditional and classical musical arrangements. The concert is free for all Great Neck Park District residents with a park card.

Defensive Driving Classes     

The Great Neck Park District continues to offer Empire Safety Council Defensive Driving Classes at Great Neck House. There will be a class from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. To sign up for a class or for more information, call Great Neck House at 482-0355.      

Steppingstone Performing Arts Concert

At 8 p.m. the Steppingstone Summer Performing Arts Concert will feature the official Blues Brothers Revue at the Great Neck Park District’ Steppingstone Park. Admission is with a park card.

Great Neck Public Schools Summer Programs

The Great Neck Public Schools summer recreation and summer school programs begin today. The summer recreation programs (information at 441-4045) and summer school programs (information at 441-4575) both begin today.

The school district’s Adult Program Summer Semester also begins todady. To register, or for information, call 441-4949.

Park Board Meeting

The Board of Commissioners of the Great Neck Park District will hold a work session meeting at the Park District Office, 5 Beach Road at 8 p.m.

Park District Family Event

Library: Bronx Retrospective A Walk Through the Bronx of Yesteryear

A 90-minute nostalgic retrospective of your Bronx of the 1940s, 50s and 60s will be presented by Steve Samtur at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. Share memories of the Bronx including the Grand Concourse, Art Deco, Bronx Delis (East and West), Freedomland, Fordham Road, Movie Theatres including the Loew’s Paradise, Parkchester, Yankee Stadium, parks, shopping, schools, transportation and so much more.

Tuesdays With REAP

REAP, retired, energetic, active, professionals meet every Tuesday at the Cumberland School, 30  Cumberland Avenue. At 9 a.m. David Marx and Abner Sheffer will present, “Gerrymandering and The Supreme Court.” A brief business meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by “My Opinion” by Fran Reff.  At about 10:45 a.m. Melvin Glazer will discuss “Frank Sinatra.” Please join us and feel free to bring your lunch.  After lunch, current events will be led by Carolyn Minionis. Refreshments are served.

Be Red Cross Ready

Free 60-minute emergency preparedness presentation that teaches residents in Metro North and Long Island how to create a plan, build a supply kit, as well as keep loved ones safe and informed during times of disaster. The presentation is at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. Each participant will receive brochures with additional resources and information. Presented by Lauren Tonetti, American Red Cross Community Outreach & Preparedness Volunteer, AmeriCorps, State Preparedness Corps.

Rotary Band Concert
