John Landy, owner of Kolson Korenge decorative hardware and plumbing in Great Neck, passed away on June 17, 2011. He was 83. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth. They had been married for 47 years. He is survived by his daughter Dale. John was indeed part of the Greatest Generation - after serving twice in the U.S. Army he worked for several hardware establishments until buying Kolson in 1960 with his father Louis. John was a pioneer in the decorative hardware industry—traveling with Ruth to trade shows throughout Europe and the U.S., searching out manufacturers to import their goods. He found styles and designs no one had ever seen before and was able to offer customers unique and unusual products. Around 1970 he merged with Henry Korenge and moved from 60 Cuttermill Road in Great Neck to its present location at 653 Middle Neck Road. His wife Ruth and daughter Dale worked side by side with him, a true family business, until Ruth’s death in 2003. Services held at Fairchild Sons, Manhasset. Burial with Military Honors at Pinelawn, Farmingdale.
