Well, yes, our school taxes have skyrocketed this year. Our school district once again is managing to keep the school budget under the state-mandated 2 percent tax cap levy (while still maintaining a stellar public school system) but yet our taxes have gone up, some as high as 10 percent. Why? How can that be?
Many residents turn to the Board of Education and to Superintendent of Schools Tom Dolan, but the real answer does not rest in the hands of anyone in the school district. The schools are doing their part, but the state is just “drowning” them. State legislators passed the governor’s highly recommended tax cap, putting an untold burden on our schools. Then, to make matters even worse, the state continues to heap unfunded mandates on these very crucial centers of education. Ultimately, our children, our future are placed in jeopardy.
Now, tell me, whose fault is this?
Go ask the governor!
