Na’aleh Women’s Chorus Sings Jewish Music

Na’aleh Women’s Chorus under the baton of Richard Whitten and with cello and piano accompaniment, will sing musical settings from Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers), psalms set to music by Salamone Rossi Hebreo, works by Charles Davidson as well as seasonal traditional and modern songs. Na’aleh members come from all over Queens and LI and will sing Jewish music in Hebrew, Ladino and English at the Na’aleh Winter Concert at 3 p.m. at the Holocaust Resource Center of Temple Judea, 333 Searingtown Rd., Manhasset. Varsity Choral Society

Will present its 20th Annual Christmas Concert at the Congregational Church of Manhasset, Northern Blvd., at 4 p.m. This year’s program will open with the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah and the Hallelujah chorus. The chorus, includes long time Great Neck resident Nancy Corn who has enjoyed her participation as a soprano with this enormously talented choir for 9 years. The choir and soloists will be conducted by Craig Tocher and accompanied by organ and strings. Featured performers include organist Judith Feuss and , Molley Davey, soprano, Melissa Maravell, contralto, Robert Horowitz, tenor, and Jason Hendrix, baritone. The second half of the program will feature Gloria by John Ness Beck, A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas and a surprise humorous work by P.D.Q. Bach. Solo and ensemble works also will be sung by choir members. The festivities will end with a rousing audience sing-a-long, accompanied beautifully by organ and strings.
