Editorial: Shop in Great Neck!

‘Tis the season to go shopping? Be it Christmas or a last-minute Hanukah gift, or entertaining over the holiday season, it’s time to shop. And when you think about shopping and holiday gifts, think Great Neck first. Shop in Great Neck for just about all of your holiday and seasonal gifts this year!

Great Neck has a lot to offer. From the bustling downtown area of Great Neck Plaza to the quieter streets of the Old Village, there is a wealth of wonderful merchandise, lovely shops, and friendly merchants. There’s always something new!

And of course, when you need to take a shopping break, try lunch or dinner, or even just a snack, at one of the peninsula’s diverse restaurants or cafes. The food offerings are diverse, the meals delicious, and the ambiance above and beyond.

The vast majority of local merchants are most friendly and eager to please. Shop with them on a regular basis and they will get to know you and your family; they will remember your likes and dislikes.

Where else but a local store can you go in and find out just which nightgown and robe set you bought your sister last year —- just so you don’t send the same one this year. Where else but a local store can you call and ask them to send your summer camper another pair of sneakers exactly like the ones that just fell in the lake? And where else but a local store can you send your teenager to get a new outfit, all along being certain that her choice will be attractive, within your budget, and, if worst comes to worst, returnable!

Yes, shopping in Great Neck is really quite easy and pleasurable, and supporting local merchants is really supporting the community. If we fail to shop locally, if we overlook our own businesses and patronize far away shops, well then, when we need a special item, maybe need it right away, that store around-the-corner will be gone and that personal service will be lost. And if too many businesses close up, our town will begin to fade, and so will the value of our homes.

We all need to support one another in order to keep Great Neck a healthy, vital community.

So when you think about shopping, please think Great Neck first!
