Faculty Recital: An Evening Of Outstanding Music

Thursday, 10 October 2013 00:00

The exceptional musical talents of the Great Neck Public Schools faculty will again entertain everyone at the twenty-second annual Faculty Recital on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m., in South High School’s music suite, 341 Lakeville Road.

The Recital brings together concert-hall-caliber vocal and instrumental faculty and invited friends to perform poplar and classical music. Selections to be performed include songs from My Fair Lady and Newsies, pieces by Rachmaninoff and Verdi, and the Long Island premier of “Summer Reveries on a Mountainside,” for solo clarinet. The composer, Marga Richer, will be in the audience that evening to hear Joseph Rutkowski, North High instrumental teacher, perform her work. In addition two original music-faculty compositions will be performed. “Meditative,” by Juan Garcia, Lakeville orchestra/band teacher, will be premiered by oboist Jennifer Hood, Lakeville music teacher, and Yoon Bae, guest pianist. “A Suite of Children’s Songs” will be performed by composer Alan Schwartz, South Middle music department head.
