Kindergartners Win Earth Day Video Contest

Students in Robin Levine’s kindergarten class at the Parkville School took first place in the Early Childhood Division in the fifth annual Town of North Hempstead Earth Day Video Contest, “Plastic Ain’t My Bag.”

The youngsters sang and acted out an original song, “Please Save Our Mascot (and recycle plastic bags),” with lyrics and music by school custodian Robert Hoffmann, an aspiring musician who recently received a master’s degree in music education. Music teacher Robin Golub also assisted with the project. Parkville’s school mascot is the penguin, one of the animals that “plastic bags can choke and hurt,” as the children thoughtfully explain in the video.

The Video Contest Award Certificate will be presented at a special ceremony on May 14 at the North Hempstead Town Hall in Manhasset. The video will be played on the Town of North Hempstead Cable TV Station and Web site, and on YouTube.
