Written by Ryan Pingitore, South High varsity wrestling coach Friday, 24 February 2012 00:00Great Neck South High School’s Christopher Koo placed third in the recent Nassau County Wrestling Championships in the 160 lb. weight class. His third place finish combined with last year’s fifth place finish gives Chris a chance to earn a wild card spot in the upcoming New York State Wrestling Championships.
Chris, a junior, finished the season with a record of 32–1 (that record will, undoubtedly, improve if he gets the wild card spot) and he became the first South High wrestler to become a Conference Champion (he won the qualifying tournament). He has also won several other events, including the Bethpage Dad’s Club Tournament, the Valley Stream North Ralph Janssen Tournament, the East Meadow Holiday Tournament, and the Glen Cove Cup.Chris has his sights set on a county title next year along with a state championship. This is an exciting time for South High Rebels Wrestling and Chris is really helping to put the team on the map.
