Written by Alec Rich Friday, 29 June 2012 00:00Great Neck Grade 5/6 (12 and under) White Sox won the inter-league championship between the Albertson-Herricks Giants. This championship win was well deserved too; the season was filled with excitement with its high and low moments as well. In the game previous to the championship, Marc Zalta and Alec Rich both pitched excellently and along with a great offense, forced the championship game against the Giants. These two teams matched up pretty equally in the championship.
In the championship, an early spark of offense from literally everybody in the lineup for the White Sox gave them an early 8-0 advantage. Some notable offensive players for the Sox in this game included Brad Fritzhand, Kevin Li, Oliver Pour, Noah Hakimian and Alec Rich.
After three and two thirds great innings pitched by Brad Fritzhand, Kevin Li came in and finished the job. Finally, the ball sailed into the shortstop Noah Hakimian’s mitt and the game was over. A 10-2 White Sox win and a hard fought loss by the Giants resulting in a championship for Great Neck. After being mobbed at the pitcher’s mound and soaked in celebratory water, Kevin Li received the “Lead By Example” Award as well as his red championship trophy which all of the other White Sox players received too. After accepting runner up trophies, the Giants still celebrated by throwing a pie at their head coach in the face and congratulated the Giants players who pitched in the championship game: Alex Skerries and and Jordan Chin. With smiles as wide as the Grand Canyon and trophies in hand, the players all went home awaiting the summer league. The White Sox would like to thank all of the players who have given it their all this season and improved as players and people. This includes: Kenny Li, Kevin Tan, Harry Hakimian, Daniel Mayer, and Zach Salm.
