Kayak Run Set For July 21

Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio and the North Hempstead Town Board in partnership with the Community Chest of Port Washington and the North Shore Kayak Club, invite all residents to the 8th annual Kayak Run.

Starting at the North Hempstead’s Town Dock, the event requires participants to paddle at their own pace to as many as possible of the designated locations around Manhasset Bay where they collect raffle tickets. The more locations on the Bay participants go to, the more raffle tickets they receive!

“I am looking forward to another terrific Kayak Run here on Manhasset Bay,” said Kaiman. “Our bays are cleaner than ever before. It really is an ideal destination for kayaking or canoeing.”

To participate in the Manhasset Bay Kayak Run, you must complete a registration form and submit it, along with an entry fee: $5 for young adults and children and $25 for adults over 20. Registration on the day of the event is $35.

Registration forms may be picked up at the Town Dock, Main Street, Port Washington, Atlantic Outfitters, 405 Main Street, Port Washington or the West Marine, 16 Soundview Market Place, Port Washington. Registration forms can also be downloaded from the Town of North Hempstead’s website at www.NorthHempsteadNY.Gov and dropped off at Atlantic Outfitters.

Everyone is welcome, and no experience is necessary. An adult must accompany children and teenagers under 16. All participants must wear an approved PFD. Discounted kayak rentals will be available at Atlantic Outfitters. Kayaks may be launched from the Town Dock, Manorhaven Park, Inspiration Wharf, and anywhere else you have access to the Bay.

Sponsors of this event include: the Community Chest of Port Washington, The North Shore Kayak Club, Atlantic Outfitters, and the Town of North Hempstead Department of Community Services. All proceeds will go to the Community Chest of Port Washington and its 24 member agencies, serving the people of Port. For more information, call 311 or Atlantic Outfitters at 516-767-2215.
