On June 9, the Great Neck Little League Minors White Soxs took on the Great Neck Little League Minor Giants in the 10-and-11-year-old championship game at Kings Point Park. It was hard fought game which the White Soxs won by a score of 4 to 3. William Lentini was the winning pitcher throwing no hit ball for 4 and 1/3 innings until he reached his pitch limit. He struck out 12 and did not give up a hit.
Scott Mayer threw 1 and 2/3 innings of one hit ball in relief picking up the save and singled in the fourth inning. Matt Pinsley walked in the third inning, stole two bases and drove in a run. Jason Zucker did a great job behind the plate calling the game. Aaron Lesser walked and scored a run in the second run third inning. Michael Song made a diving catch at second base in the fifth inning, fielded a grounder to get the final out of the fifth inning and doubled in the third inning to drive in two runs. Greg Vitiello walked twice, stole two bases and scored a run in the third inning. Lucien Gau hit a rocket in the first inning which the leftfielder made a great play to catch. Sam Perlman made a great play in the outfield to keep a hard hit ball in the top of the sixth inning to a double. Alan Birnbaum walked twice and scored two runs and stole four bases. Congratulations to the White Soxs and coaches Bob Vitiello and Vince Lentini on a great season.
