The annual American Parkinson Disease Association’s Paws for Parkinson’s, Howl-O-Ween Dog and People Walkathon will be held on Oct. 27 at the Marjorie R. Post Park in Massapequa. Once again this year, the Ratner family of Great Neck will walk in memory of their beloved mother and grandmother, Dr. Sonia Savitzky. Dr. Savitzky was a mother of nine who fought a long, brave battle against Parkinson’s until her passing six years ago.
Last year, with the help of their family, their two Portuguese Water dogs, Cooper and Coby, and the Great Neck community, The Ratner’s were “top dogs” raising over $3500.00. This year, they hope to surpass this amount. Donations will be used to support APDA’s national fundraising effort to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease, a debilitating neurological disorder that affects 1.5 million Americans. If you would like to contribute, please visit www.liapda.org (follow the link to register and search Ratner) or make your tax deductable check out to the American Parkinson Disease Association and mail it to Denise Ratner, 40 Amherst Road, Great Neck, NY 11021.
