Angela Susan Anton, publisher of Anton Community Newspapers and Dan Rosett, editor of the Healthy Living Digest section of Anton Community Newspapers, were both honored by NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Queens/Nassau at the annual LI/Queens area 2010 NAMIWalks Kick Off Luncheon for their continued support of NAMI Queens/Nassau and NAMIWalks. Joan Gilroy, director of government affairs, Cablevision, was also recognized as an important media sponsor. The luncheon was held on March 24, at the Swan Club in Roslyn Harbor.
Arthur A. Gianelli, president/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced support for the New York Organ Donor Network’s donor registry drive during National Donate Life Month. “Save lives. Sign up to be an organ donor. That is the message from the New York Organ Donor Network during April’s National Donate Life Month, and Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) is lending its support to the month-long initiative,” said Gianelli. “Organ donation and transplantation are vital elements in helping us fulfill our role in this lifesaving mission.”
A two-year study sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to assess changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behavior relating to mental illness in middle school students through instruction with “Breaking the Silence” (BTS) lessons has concluded that the BTS program is effective in promoting growth in these areas.
