Imagine being able to know that your pacemaker’s battery is running low from a wireless monitor at your bedside. Now, thanks to a new FDA-approved device, patients won’t have to visit their doctor’s office to have their batteries checked; instead, they will be getting a call from their doctor who is connected to a central monitoring station.
With health reform looming, a new Consumer Reports survey suggests that consumers are ready for some changes. For survey respondents, median annual out-of-pocket costs for premiums increased by 38 percent in the past two years, and only 64 percent of those surveyed were "Very” or “Completely” satisfied with their current health insurance plan.
U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” ranks Schneider Children’s Hospital (SCH) among the nation’s top 30 children’s hospitals in the pediatric specialties of: diabetes and endocrinology, digestive disorders, respiratory disorders and urology.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings, now available online and at newsstands on July 21, are based on hospitals’ reputation, medical outcomes such as death and infection rates, and care-related indicators such as patient volume, nurse staffing and availability of specialized programs.
