As the weather gets nice, it is good to get out and enjoy the spring and to try to remember those in need as well. A dedicated group of people have put together the Every Woman Matters walk to benefit women’s health and the second annual event is coming right up. The walk will take place May 22.
“Last year’s walk was attended by well over 4,000 people and we expect this year’s attendance to be even greater,” said an organizer. The walk will take place, rain or shine, at Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh, field 5.
Proceeds from the 5K walk will benefit the new Katz Institute for Women’s Health and Katz Women’s Hospitals of North Shore-LIJ Health System.
Hosted jointly by North Shore-LIJ and the Commerce & Industry Council, the 3.1-mile walk is open to women, men and children of all ages. It will feature exhibitions, hands-on activities and giveaways for the whole family. Refreshments and musical entertainment will round out the morning. The walk is being supported by title sponsors LIREG (Long Island Real Estate Group) and Dottie Herman and Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate along with many other generous individual and corporate sponsors.
Last year the walk was attended by moms, dads, kids, grandmas and grandpas and brought our community together for the day.
“Those who entered The Katz Institute for Women’s Health Showcase came out with a better understanding of the services that the North Shore-LIJ Health System has to offer our community,” says Neeta M. Shah, MD, FACP, vice president of women’s health services for North Shore-LIJ Health System, who has a column in Healthy Living Digest. “This year, our walk promises to be even bigger and better, and will provide even more information.”
Anton Community Newspapers is a supporter of the walk and even has a team this year, “Carol’s Cruisers.” They are walking and raising money in honor of an employee recently lost to cancer, Carol Pytel. The company has begun raising money with bake sales and fundraisers, and is off to a great start.
“Even though times are tough, we as a company need to continue to do things to help the community,” said Iris Picone, classified manager, who has been helping lead the fundraising for Carol’s Cruisers along with Gerry Laytin, advertising representative; Christy Hinko, editor; Billy Delventhal, general manager; Frank Virga, director of sales; and Angela Susan Anton, publisher.
Committed to the advancement of women’s health, North Shore-LIJ Health System has made significant progress on the Katz Women’s Hospital at both LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, offering an unparalleled experience to women of every age and background. In spaces specially designed for women, Katz Women’s Hospitals will offer a full range of obstetrical and gynecological services, with state-of-the-art technology and amenities. Construction for the Katz Women’s Hospital at North Shore will be completed in phases, the first to conclude this year. We look forward to the opening at LIJ in 2012.
The Katz Institute for Women’s Health offers help in navigating through the many community health and wellness activities and events being held throughout the health system. The Institute will provide information about support groups, research and groundbreaking clinical trials.
