Students Visit Living Museum

Our Lady of Mercy’s 4th grade classes in Hicksville visited the Old Bethpage Village Restoration in Old Bethpage, on Sept. 20. The students spoke with Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders, the first United States Volunteer Cavalry.

President Roosevelt told the students of the Roughriders adventures in Florida and Cuba. A highlight was the Rough demonstrations on horseback. The Agricultural Society sponsored an old time fair contests for baking, art, quilting and more.

The children participated in old time games, learned to make musical instruments from vegetables, and visited the historical buildings.
