Hicksville Middle School seventh graders displayed their talent and months of hard work and rehearsals during their recent winter concert.
The orchestra, under the direction of Benjamin Scher, played three pieces, starting with Mozart’s “German Dance.” They were followed by the chorus, directed by Caroline Calleo, who performed four songs, including Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich’s “Do Wah Diddy Diddy.” The last to take the stage was the band, directed by Patricia Tarsoly, whose three-piece performance was highlighted by a soulful rendition of the traditional “African Bell Carol.”The middle school winter concerts are presented across three nights, with one grade performing each night. The ambitious musical selections and high quality of performances are testimony to the notion that a challenging and robust music program for developing skills can produce wonderful results.
