New York State Senator Carl L. Marcellino presented a proclamation to the Hicksville School District and the high school boys varsity soccer team for having secured the New York State Championship for Conference AA against Webster Schroeder High School. The team, coaches, and members of the administration gathered in the Kristoff Theater to hear the senator’s laudatory remarks about their victorious efforts.
“Teamwork is essential to success,” Senator Marcellino told the team members. “When we pull together as a team, we are strong and can’t be stopped.”
Senator Marcellino also encouraged the boys to thank their parents for their hard work and support of the team and high school academics.
For the first time since 1979, the boys varsity soccer team earned the Conference AA Nassau County Championship, Long Island Championship, and New York State Championship titles, as well as the 2011-2012 New York State Scholar-Athlete Team Award. In addition, Peter DiLorenzo has been named New York State Tournament MVP, and Jung Park has received the New York State Sportsmanship Award.
During the assembly with Senator Marcellino, Superintendent of Schools Maureen K. Bright also took time to congratulate the team. “The district is proud of you, not just for the fact that you are now state champions, but that you are fine young men,” she stated. “The district is also proud of the way you conducted yourselves and pulled together as a team.”
