Helen Trubinski, member of the Hicksville Homemaker’s Council, for more than 40 years, passed away on June 4, always volunteering and teaching classes. Helen will be missed greatly.
Edward Charles Albert, 77, of Keene, NH passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 15. Albert was born Nov. 26, 1935 in Brookline MA. He attended Michael Driscoll School followed by Brookline High School where he graduated from in 1954. Albert attended University of Connecticut at Storrs Campus and received his Bachelor’s degree in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army starting in 1959 and was a First Lieutenant Transportation Corps when he was discharged in 1966.
Albert re-located to Long Island in 1962 and taught social studies at Hicksville High School. He married Barbara Kozakiewicz in 1964. Albert received his Master’s degree from UConn in 1970.
Valerie M. Pereira, 53, passed away on April 2. Devoted wife of Avelino. Beloved mother of Thomas (Kate) and Daniel. Cherished daughter of Marjorie Mahoney and the late Walter Smithing. Dear sister of Robert (Maddy) Smithing and Gary (Kristin) Smithing. Loving sister-in-law of Gloria (rocco), Zulmira (John), Arminda (Manny), Eulampia (Mort) and loving daughter-in-law of Floriano and Eulampia. She is survived also by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Hicksville Chapel, with mass at St. Ignatius R. C. Church. Interment was held at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington.

Dr. Stuart L. Yunis, a pioneer in the field of nephrology, passed away on March 16. He was 79 years old.
Dr. Yunis was a well-respected physician – and a beloved family man. He left Dartmouth following his third year, receiving early admission to SUNY Syracuse medical school. After graduation, he became chief resident at LIJ and later became double board certified in both internal medicine and nephrology. Dr. Yunis founded a very successful medical practice in Lake Success with specialists in every field. He also created the first in-house dialysis department at LIJ and later moved to St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, where he launched the in-house dialysis unit.
Maureen T. Brady, of West Islip and formerly of Hicksville, passed away on Nov. 9. Former Columbiette. Beloved wife of the late Carroll. Loving mother of Brian (Lori), Maureen Kalinowski (James) and Bill. Cherished grandmother of 10. Internment Holy Rood Cemetery.
Helen Mayo Lafferty, of Hicksville, born Aug. 10, 1925, died peacefully in her sleep at home in the early hours of Oct. 15. She had just turned 87 years of age. Her husband of 46 years, Raymond Lafferty, predeceased her in 1993.
