Olga Marcinik, 96, the late member of the Staryk family of Hicksville, died on March 4, 2010 after years of disability.
The family had operated a 10-acre dairy farm near Burns Avenue in Hicksville, and a 25-acre farm near Pidgeon Hill Road., Huntington. The two farms had more than 100 cows, a processing plant, a dairy store and some 40 delivery trucks. Its customers included homes, restaurants, stores, etc.
Anthony “Tony” Previte, a former trustee on the Hicksville Public Library Board, passed away Feb. 21, 2010. Mr. Previte had been battling an illness for several months and recently underwent surgery. He was 85 years old.
In addition to serving on the library board, Mr. Previte was past president of the Hicksville Community Council and a member of the Hicksville Gregory Museum Board. He was also active with the Hicksville’s Galileo Galilei Lodge –Sons of Italy, the Joseph Barry Knights of Columbus, the Charles Wagner American Legion and the William M. Gouse, Jr. Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Lucy Burke, 87, of Hicksville, died on Feb. 13, 2010 at Glens Falls Hospital, NY. Born in Brooklyn, Dec. 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Grace (Cardone) Sabatino. Lucy married William Burke of Salem, NY, on June 1, 1946. He passed away June 30, 1985, following their 39th anniversary. Lucy had the privilege of staying at home and raising her children. Most recently, she was a member of the Senior Citizens of Bethpage.
Mary Faderi, of Hicksville, died on Feb. 8, 2010. She was a member of the Mercy League. Wife of Joseph. Mother of JoAnne, Michael, Marylou Niedfeld, Catherine Hearon (Charles) and Joseph (Joan). Grandmother of seven. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Hicksville Chapel. Mass at Our Lady of Mercy RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery.
Sabina T. Brigandi, of Hicksville, died on Feb. 4, 2010 in her 88th year. She was a member of Catholic Daughters at St. Ignatius RC Church and the Mercy League. Wife of the late Calvin. Mother of Patricia Fiorillo (Peter), Arleen Brigandi, Janice Horvath (Robert) and Regina Kosman (Kenneth).
The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Hicksville Chapel. Mass at Holy Family RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
On Jan. 28 2010, Alex Eliassof, an original founding member of A & D Offset Printers, Ltd., which opened in the early ‘80s, passed away. Coincidentally, it was on his 89th birthday. Alex was a very well-known, liked and respected man. He will be missed very dearly by family and friends and will forever remain in their hearts and minds. Alex was also a member of many clubs and organizations.
Alex was a WWII veteran in the United States Navy.
Alex is survived by his wife Nina (Sarah) Eliassof; his son Mark Eliassof; grandson Adam Eliassof; and granddaughter Tara Eliassoff.
Known as the ultimate caregiver, Mr. Harnett shepherded the care of thousands of Long Islanders in his role as president/CEO of Family & Children’s Association, a human care agency serving Long Island’s neediest population. Mr. Harnett passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 23, 2010.
In addition to his role at Family & Children’s, Mr. Harnett served as advisor to The Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, member (formerly, Secretary of the Board and member of the Executive Committee); The Kimmel Housing Development Foundation, Inc., member, Board of Directors; Long Island Federally Qualified Health Center, Chair, Board of Directors; New York State Association of Family Service Agencies, Vice President and Chair of the Advocacy Committee; New York State Health Foundation, Special Opportunity Grants, Peer Review Committee; United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Consultant, Management Training; The United Way of Long Island, Vice President, Agency Executives Council; Anna and Philip Kimmel Foundation, Advisor and Community Advocates, Board member.
Gladys M. Kist-Cooke (nee Dempsey-Kist), lifelong resident of Hicksville, and Mesa, AZ. Wife of the late Edward Kist and the late Eldon Cooke. Mother of Edward Kist Jr., Gail Wheeler and the late George Kist. Sister of Jacqueline Guglielmo. Grandmother of Kelly, James, Jamie, Edward III, Richard and Christopher. Great-grandmother of James, Avery, Destiny, Raynor, Noveigh and Connor.
The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Hicksville Chapel. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Tribute Gifts, Church Street Station, PO Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780, in his memory would be appreciated.
Robert J. Smith, 47-year resident of Hicksville, died on Dec. 16, 2009. He was US Navy veteran of WWII and Korea. He coached Little League. Longtime dedicated service in the Carle Place schools. Husband of the late Mary. Father of Robert (Theresa), Joseph (Laura) and Eileen Roehrig (Chris). Grandfather of Frank, Robert, Thomas, Joseph, Emma, Anabelle and Celine.
