Cantiague Park Senior Men’s Golf League

Written by Lou Neumann Friday, 23 October 2009 07:25

It was a fitting end to a very rainy season. It was not raining when we started, but soon after the last group teed off, we had a light drizzle. We were able to finish without getting soaked. This was the last tournament of the season and after we finished playing, we went to the Knights of Columbus hall for a luncheon and distribution of prizes. We played a “Scramble” tournament, so there was only the first and second place teams and the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin prizes. Two teams were tied with a total of 30 strokes, but one team had a birdie on the first hole so they won first-place money. They are: Tom Parker, Kent Schreiber, Joe Sander and Al Pascola. The second place winners were: Bob Ross, Ralph Guadagno, Ken Hymes and Peter Guerra.

10-Year-Old Defeated By Uniondale Knights

There are times in the world of sports that no matter how hard you try the result is not always successful.

On the morning of Oct. 18 at the Mitchell Field Athletic complex, the 10-year-old Crusaders experienced one of those times as they took on the undefeated Uniondale Knights in the rain, wind and biting cold.

The weather conditions created numerous fumbles for both teams but Uniondale did a better job capitalizing on them, scoring three times in the first half. Throughout the game, the Crusaders offensive line took a pounding. Even so, Hicksville was able to put a series of drives together. When it came to crossing the goal line, they were stopped short each time.
