Nassau County selected Nassau Events Center to redevelop Nassau Coliseum and the surrounding property, by offering the county a significantly sweeter deal.

Bruce Ratner, the developer of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and NEC’s chief executive, beat out Hank Ratner (no relation) and the Madison Square Garden Company after the county narrowed its choices to the two entertainment giants last month.

At a news conference in Mineola on Thursday, Aug. 15, Mangano noted revenue differences in the two proposals drove the final decision.

The Cantiague Park Senior Men’s Golf League had its 9th tournament on Aug. 22. We had 26 golfers. We had 6 golfers who scored under 40, including a brilliant 33 by Bob Ross and Dave Malle. Low overall score was won by Dave Malle with a tiebreaker. John Valsecchi scored a 42, his personal best so far and easily won low overall net.  

Please note: There will be no early outs from this point on. Club golfers who do not wait for the 7:30 a.m. start will lose rights to winning any prize money or points. Golfers who must be the first out at 7:30 a.m. will be accommodated. A new rule will also be imposed that you must play your round with club members only or default your score. March of Dimes Presents 32nd Annual Invitational Golf Outing

The 32nd Annual Invitational Golf Tournament was held at The Creek on Aug. 12 where many professionals joined together to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the March of Dimes. This year’s honoree was Robert Gilman of Plainview, CPA of Anchin, Block & Anchin, LLP. Other sponsors included Seyfarth Shaw, Bryan Cave, Deloitte, Jericho Capital, Merrick Financial Group, Michael & Darci Hirschberg, Meister Seelig & Fein LLP, Property Resources Corporation, TD Bank, and Lexus of Massapequa.

Sports enthusiasts from throughout the Town of Oyster Bay are invited to attend a “Family Football Night” at John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. Residents will feel like a part of the action during the evening’s planned activities, including a live interactive scrimmage with players from LIU Post.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto said the unique event will allow fans to go inside the game and experience football from a different perspective.

 

Local Chevy Dealer Scores Goal With Soccer

In the spirit of community collaboration and teamwork taught through youth sports, Robert Chevrolet is supporting Hicksville American Soccer Club through the Chevrolet Youth Soccer Program. This sponsorship will include both monetary and equipment donations during the 2013 youth soccer season.

Chevrolet Youth Soccer is a grassroots initiative that establishes a positive relationship between local dealers and the communities they serve. Robert Chevrolet is sponsoring Hicksville American Soccer Club as a part of Chevrolet’s nation-wide commitment to support youth sports, one community at a time. Over the course of the season, Robert Chevrolet will donate equipment to the organization which may include: soccer balls, ball bags, ball pumps, field cones, coach’s kits, corner flags, scrimmage vests, mini pop-up goals and first aid kits.

Crusaders Prepare To Begin New Season

New York State District 32 Champions

The Hicksville Baseball Association 10-year-old Williamsport boys are New York State District 32 Champions. It was a tough road to the championship. The boys started out the Williamsport Tournament with a tough 4-3 win over East Meadow. Nick Iannuzzo had the big hit in this one, a two out single that drove in 2 and gave Hicksville the lead for good. Billy Sullivan was strong on the mound going 4 and 1/3 innings for the win. Jordan Ramlogan came in with ice in his veins and shut East Meadow for the save, leaving the tying run on third with a huge strike out to end the game.

 

Girl Scouts Go Flying

Hicksville Middle School Girl Scout Cadette Troop 3117 had a high flying time at I Fly Trapeze located at Eisenhower Park. Each girl scout learned the basics of the trapeze and had the chance to participate with the assistance of the I Fly Trapeze instructors. At first they were nervous but at the end they performed like professionals. I Fly Trapeze gave the girl scouts the chance to learn something new, challenge themselves, and explore and discover hidden talents. The girls had a great time together and are looking forward to new opportunities and experiences in the coming year. Pictured: Scouts Lauren, Kerrin, Samantha, Theresa, Courtney, and Emily.
