Two goals by John Rojas and one by Nick Pepi gave the Hicksville Outlaws all the goals they needed to win the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s Boys-Under-13 Arch Capital Group Cup. Hicksville defeated another Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) team, Lynbrook/East Rockaway United, 3-1, in the championship game on June 8 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.
“We were very aggressive, very hungry and we have a great defense,” said Hicksville coach Mario Cirigliano.
Lynbrook/East Rockaway received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by the game officials. Now retired, the remarkable Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.
