While the weather was overcast, it didn't damper any spirits. The juniors played an exciting contest, which ended in a 7-7 tie. The red team had goals by Constantine Lascarides (3), Andrea Cellucci (2) and Michael Pellegrino (2). The blue team came roaring back with goals by Harrison Stein (3) and 2 each by Aldo Kakkanattu and Joseph Kakkanattu. The intermediate match also ended in a tie, 5-5. The Jaguars had balanced scoring from Liam O'Brien (2), and one each from Tristan Yang, Jessica Daly and Nick Mininson. The Lions had a powerful one-two punch with Danny Barber scoring 3 goals and 2 by Sebastian Pinto. Great 2-way play by Nelson Molina. The seniors faced off against the coaches. The players got off to a quick start led by Stefani Egre 3 goals. Nicholas Scaturro, playing in his 1st game, added one and Justin Lim and Patrick Williams closed out the scoring. The coaches made a late run but time ran out as they were on the attack trying to tie the game. Next week's tournament at Rockville Center has been canceled so we're back at Center Street at the normal 10 a.m.

Kitty Kats- Strikers - In the beautiful sunshine the Kitty Kats played the Strickers. Right after the whistle, you knew right away the Kitty Kats had only one thing on their mind. Kitty-Katz with all their secret weapons on the field and the Strikers with out Giselle Correia, Coach Louie had to use his best strategy to stop the speedy Kitty Kats. The Kitty Kats scored first. That's when Marina Pappas took manners in to her own hands and scored to tie the game.Claire Kivelowitz,Allison Liman and Gabriella Caicedo played great up front agaisnt the tuff Kitty Kats defense. But still, the speedy Kitty Kats would not slow down and the defense combination of Nicolena Vega and Orna Kidanian stop every drive along with Channing Woo making great saves to keep the Strikers tie. In the second half the game was an intense one for both teams. Marina Pappas with the help of Orna and Allison scored her second goal of the game. This time with the combination of Allison and Channing on defense and the goaltender debut of Nicolena Vega, every attempt made by the KittyKats was rejected. Gabriella help reinforce the offense. In the last minutes of the game, Marina Pappas scored a hat-trick with a cross that went off the defender. Sportmanship was indeed... the theme of the day. The final score 3-1 Strikers. Kitty Kats: The Kitty Kats played an awesome game. On goal were Alina Kachar and Randi Sarf. Some very amazing blocks girls! Julia Feldman and Stephanie Zovich were a strong defensive team consistently clearing the ball. Jasmine Kamdar, Jordan Wachsman and Caitlin Biggs showed some fancy footwork in bringing the ball up to the goal. We missed Madeline Slaski and Caroline Nuttall.

Game Summary: Lightning 3 - Cubs 1
On our first real nice day for soccer since the season started, the Lightning and Cubbies squared off in a tightly contested game that featured a lot of good passing and tough defense by both teams. The Lightning got off to a fast start when LF Sophie Michaels got a hold of a loose ball at the top of the box and fed Kaitlyn Krems on the right - and Katie put away a high and hard one to make it 1-0 about 10 minutes into the game. Katie got another nice goal off a similar pass from Striker Jordyn Siegel to make it 2-0 shortly thereafter. Jordyn had a very strong game and just missed on a chance of her own a little later. Near the end of the half, Marisa Menist got her first goal for NHP as she dashed in on goal off the dribble and popped a hard one in to make it 3-0 at the break. Marisa had a very nice game, using her moves and doing a great job of dribbling. Kristin Granieri played very well in goal in the first half - stopping a point blank shot by Siobhan McMullan to preserve the lead. In the second half the Cubs got a quick goal to cut the lead to 3-1 early on and started to apply to nice pressure. Mollie Zimmerman, however, was up to the task in goal and did a very nice job holding the Cubs scoreless thereafter - making several nice pickups. The Defense of Bethany Ambrosio in the middle, Kasey Borduas on the Right, and Jessica Goldstein on the left was very solid and did a great job of clearing the box. Isabel Ugolini, Kaitlyn Krems and Sophie Michaels took their turn on D as well and did their job protecting the lead as well. Isabel attacked the goal well also today. At midfield, Sophia Leeds had a super game, both distributing the ball to her wings and clearing the ball when she was back on D. All in all a very good effort by both teams. I really like the way the Lightning held their positions today and made nice hard passes that they quickly transitioned to the next player down the line. Nice give and go's today also. Keep up the good work! Dylan and Casey Sanders, we missed you.
Firecats 3 - Panthers 0
The Fire Cats have really been on 'fire' the past few weeks and they have shown some good soccer skills and team work playing against some really tough teams. Theodora P used her awesome footwork to dribbling around defenders and set herself up for 2 exciting goals in the first half. Rebecca Oliveri, a newcomer to the position, played fearlessly in goal and did not allow a shot to get by her . Ali Luna, Sara Salmon and Stephanie K played very aggressivlely and broke up the Panther momentum many times today and cleared the ball out of trouble. Edna Dudek was her spunky self and relentless attacked the goal to keep the pressure in the Panther zone. Abha Japi and Ashley Lasko both took to hard hits to the face today, but kept on ticking and played well throughout the game. Tiffany Velin used her speed and agililty to zig-zag into the Panther zone and scored the last Firecat goal of the game to make it 3 -0. Sara Reigrod, who didn't feel well today, helped the team a lot in the second half by playing goalie and made several stops to preserve the shutout. Great work today by the girls - you all should be proud. Crystal Thomas and Marcela Curcio - we missed you. The Panthers and Fire Cats squared off on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, one in which both teams displayed tons of hustle and heart. The Fire Cats opened up the scoring with two early goals. The Panthers' Camryn Weinbaum, Kira Crehan and Natalie Giordano moved the ball effectively on offense. Kelsey Nathan, Hannah Dienstag and Mackenzie Griffin showed their "True Grit", getting down and dirty for the duration of the game. Ciara Lennon of the Panthers, made some nice saves and provided some heads up throw-ins as goalie for the first half. The Fire Cats scored again early in the second half of play, but were shut out for the remainder of the afternoon thanks to the goal keeping of Bonnie Charles and the defensive play of Deirdre Lynch, Ciara McGreevy and Ally Petricca. All in attendance agreed that both teams really showed a lot of heart today and played a fine game
Cubs 1 vs Lightning 3 The Cubs took on a very strong Lightning offensive team and the Lightning scored 3 first half points but in the second half the Cubs came to life with a little action and some big defensive stands against the lightning shutting down the Lightning down. Marissa Cronin with two scoreless halves in the past few weeks was doing well as goaltender for the Cubs. Julia Gordon has been the aggressor on defense and on offense, great job Julia. The Cubs saw some late breaking rallies and capitalized on a sweet pass from Siobhan McMullen to Olivia Lugo who slammed it away for the only Cubs goal of the day. All the girls played exceptionally hard out there. Great Job Girls. I Hope everyone had a great Cinco de Mayo and I want to wish all the mom's a Happy Mother's Day
4/27/08 Game: Panthers 2 vs Cubs 2 The Cubs took on the Panthers in an exciting game. Olivia Lugo was strong in net not letting anything get passed her. Cubs defense was tight and all over the Panthers attack. Cubs scoring came by way of Siobhan McMullen with a nice feed pass to Julia Gordon and Julia put the ball in the back of the net for a goal in the first half. Nice going great job girls. The Panthers weren't going down without a fight and answered back with two goals of their own in the second half. With the Cubs on a last minute drive to the goal the Panthers were called for a hands penalty and Siobhan McMullen was asked to take the kick and she knew what to do with her chance, a shot over the goalies left shoulder that tied and ended the game. Great Job girls
The Cheetah Girls vs. The Wild Things
It was another exciting, great match-up between The Cheetah Girls and The Wild Things on this very hot May Sunday. Great defensive break-ups by Alexandra Gootman and Daphne Siozios who showed off their defensive talent by stopping the Wild Things offensive line as Silvana Seidita in goalie was in ready position for the shots on goal. Great passing by the Cheetah Girls' defense up to their offensive players led by Lauren Vowinkel, Kasey Kennedy and Irene Tsahas who netted two excellent goals for the first half of the game. Great Job Irene!! Fighting very hard, the offense for The Cheetah Girls had many shots on the Wild Things goalie keeping her on her toes who made tremendous saves. The Wild Things came back fighting very hard throughout the game to even out the score for the first half. Second half play was as exciting as the first with both teams playing their best soccer and giving their all and holding their positions very well. With some switching of positions, in goal for the Cheetah Girls this time was Alexandra Gootman who cleared the ball out fast and effectively to her offensive line led by Daphne Siozios, Silvana Seidita and Kasey Kennedy who kept the ball in play passing to each other using their fancy footwork to keep the ball on the opposite end of the field. Nida Mirza played a terrific game attacking the Wild Things offense as she cleared out the ball down the line. With two minutes left in play a terrific goal scored by Irene Tsahas in the corner of the goal which gave her a Hat Trick for today's game. Way To Go Irene! Great teamwork by both teams!! Congrats to All! A great big thanks go out to Daniela O'Modie and Irene Krische who both helped out other teams by volunteering to leave their teams to help a short-handed team. Great Sportsmanship!! Thanks to all parents/family for cheering all the players! We missed Stephanie Chacko

5/4/08: NHP Lady Bengals 0 POB 0 - The Lady Bengals played a fabulous "soccer game" today against a very big and tough Plainview/Old Bethpage team. Our girls battled the entire game and really demonstrated over and over just how skillful a soccer team they are. MVP goes out to Danielle Michaels who stepped in as goalie today. Although she had her finger broken during the first half, she remained in goal. Keep up the fine game of "soccer" girls!
5/5/08: Semi-Finals of Waldbaum Cup:
NHP Lady Bengals 0 Farmingdale 1
(after two 5 minute halfs and a shoot out!)
The Lady Bengals were ready to take the field at 5 p.m. but due to glinch with the scheduling of referees, the game didn't begin until 5:45 p.m. The Lady Bengals had many attempts but just couldn't manage to score. The game ended in a 0-0 tie which brought the Lady Bengals to two 5-minute sudden death periods. When neither team managed to score, a shoot out occurred. The Lady Bengals opened up the scoring but Farmingdale came out on top at the end of the shoot out. Congratulations to the Lady Bengals on all of your hard work and determination. We are proud of the way you play the game of "soccer" ! Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who constantly show their support for their girls week after week.

New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 4 vs. Albertson Rockets 1
May 2,
The Lady Tigers played with no substitute today but were still able to control much of the game. Jennifer scored the first goal with her left foot in front of the goalie following a near miss scoring attempt by Jasmine from the right side of the field. Erin scored the second goal by stealing the ball from mid field with a beautiful body block and bringing the ball all the way down field and kicking it right into the goal. Jasmine continued to have many close scoring attempts; her perseverance and persistent finally scored the third goal before half time. The Lady Tigers played with great team work, passing the ball back to set up several plays. The Lady Tigers also showed much improvement with their corner kicks. The final goal came with Jennifer who shot the ball that bounced off the Rocket's goalie and went up in the air and came down towards Betsy who was in perfect position and scored the fourth and final goal with a perfect header! Lisa played another excellent game as goaltender, handling some tricky hops and slippery field conditions. Laila and Julie both played a strong defensive game, keeping the ball on the offensive end of the field for most of the day. Erin, Betsy and Sabrina each played a well rounded game, taking turns playing both offense and defense. On offense Jasmine, Bridgette and Jennifer applied constant pressure looking for scoring opportunities. Although the girls seemed tired, they were able to keep their intensity up and played well throughout the whole game.

Kitkats v Hicksville Allstars - Kitkats roar to victory!! In an outstanding display of team effort and intensity the Kitkats defeated the previously undefeated Hicksville Allstars. The Kitkats faced a formidable opponent but they were up for the challenge and shut out Hicksville 2-0. Hicksville came out firing but our girls were ready. With excellent anticipation, the first half goaltending of Sarahelena denied any Hicksville threat. (Sarahelena was also tenacious defensively in the second half). After withstanding the initial Allstars outburst, our fabulous felines showcased their sweet passing and intense pressure. The Kitkats took the lead in the first half with a lovely goal by the tireless Taylor Cosme. Taylor took the assist from the emerging Laura Rountree who played her best game for the Kitkats. Taylor added another tally n the second half, this one assisted by Tara Sirotkin who is adding toughness to her repertoire of speed and quickness. Toughness also was also displayed by our players in the midfield. Mikaela Kelly, Catherine Saketos and Gaby Berger would not be denied and helped our fantastic felines control the middle. Not to be outdone by their own offense, the Kitkat defense was fierce. Led by Jessica Fox, Isabel Ryan, Katya Keblish and Brittany Apuzza, the defense was excellent giving the Hicksville girls very little time or room to maneuver. After playing tough defense in the first half, Amanda Zeitlin finished off the game at goal and was quick to pick up anything that went by our defenders. With the combination of excellent goaltending, intense pressure, quick accurate passing and the great teachings of trainer extraordinaire, Michelle H, the Kitkats earned a valuable victory. Way to go girls you gave your fans a real gift with this great performance! Roar! Kitkats, roar!!

The jaguars had a tough outing against a strong Rockville Centre team on Saturday. Chris Pun scored a goal assisted by Peter Keenan in the first half. The offense led by Brian Ambadjes, Michael Zornberg, Anthony Lopes, Liam Bradley, Anthony DiMarco & Thomas Faranan as well as our defensive line led by Anthony Cacchioli, Brendan Morrison, John Buckley played a hard and competitive game with no substitutions, and Daniel Flori stopped several shots on goal. Unfortunatley ,the team came up short in the end, but certainly not from the lack of effort. The jaguars are back on the field next week hoping for a big win.

Tigersharks v. Lightning - As if to spotlight a great performance, the noontime sun shone bright on two talented teams. The Tigersharks and the Lightning put on an exciting and well played soccer show. The Tigersharks had some outstanding performances. The versatile and hardworking Jimmy Denara played all positions on the field very well.
His brother Johnny also stepped up and played offense, defense and handled the demanding mid defender position like a pro. Ryan Shum came out strong and helped his team with his goal tending, defensive pressure and good passing. Dylan Singh is developing into a very reliable goaltender in addition to his strong effort on the field. The tireless Christopher Capodanno was a force everywhere on the pitch. Jeremy Barrios summoned all his energy to fight for the ball and attack the Lightning defense. Nicholas Pellegrino showcased his ball control as he dribbled through the Lightning defense to create scoring opportunities for the Tigersharks. James Castaldi made the most of his opportunities and scored two goals, a powerful blast in the first half and a well placed ball in the second half. The Tigersharks are working hard, improving and getting ready for the play-offs. Both teams did a terrific job and entertained all their fans. Keep up the good work. Go Tigersharks!!!
