Williston Park Holds Three Hearings Prior to Meeting

The Village of Williston Park held three hearings prior to its regular meeting. The laws are as follows:

Local Law No. 6

The first hearing was to discuss Local Law No. 6. The law was to amend Section 201-25 (A) of the village code to select the maximum exeptions allowable pursuant to Real Property Tax Law No. 458-a(2)(a), (b) and (c) regarding the alternative veterans exemption. The law would be effective immediately upon filing with the secretary of state.

The board voted to amend the law.

Local Law No. 7

The second law presented was to consider the adoption of Local Law No. 7 entitled Local Law Setting Municipal Parking Lot Fees.

The law would provide that as of Jan. 1, 2012, village code Section 93-14 (A0 would be amended to provide that municipal parking lot fees would be set as follows:

1. Permits for village resident and residential property owers shall be $125.

2. Commercial property owners $125

3. For all others $250.

The board voted to approve proposed Law No. 7.

Local Law No. 8

The third law presented was to provide the changing of Chapter No. 93 to authorize the village board of trustees to set fees for village permits by resolution.

Williston Park Village Mayor Paul Ehrbar said that this law would permit the board to set fees for village permits by resolution instead of a public hearing.

Trustee Teresa Thomann said she is opposed to changing this law from a public hearing to a resolution, but that their should be a notice given for this law and a public hearing held. She added, “This is the way this should be done to make the public aware of what is going on.”

Mayor Ehrbar said, “The intent of this law is not to do things in the dark of night but to make the public aware of what the village is doing and a chance to run the village more efficiently.”

Therefore this law will not be voted on at this meeting, but at the next meeting which will be held on December 19 at 8 p.m.

The hearing portion of the meeting was adjourned and the regular meeting moved to the upstairs meeting room to accommodate the special meeting on the village re-assessment.
