Herricks Once Again Teams Up with MSG Network

At the last Herricks school board meeting, Superintendent Jack Bierwirth announced, due to the efforts of Physical Education Director Jim Petricca and Brian Foley, the Herricks Soccer games will again be televised on MSG Varsity.

On Friday, October 14 MSG Varsity a 24/7 HD network dedicated to everything high school will feature an upcoming Herricks boys soccer matchup against Long Beach HS.  MSG Varsity will be on-site at Long Beach High School to broadcast the game live to television viewers starting at 4:30PM on iO TV Channel 14.

 

New Hyde Park Runners in Racing/Winning Mode

The members of the New Hyde Park Runners Club are in the thick of fall racing season now, and the following are the results:

Peggy Delaney completed the Clarence DeMar Marathon (Keene NH) a few Sundays ago, Peggy finished in 5:04:02.

Runners participated in the Entenmann’s Great South Bay Races. Joe Salow ran in his favorite half-marathon, the Entenmann’s. He completed the course in 2:19:36. Scott Fairgrieve ran 47:18, for 2nd place AG in the Entenmann’s 10K.

Merillon U8 Blue Sharks vs. Albertson/Herricks

The Sharks rolled to their third consecutive victory with another great game that was won by the score of 5-0. Five different pitchers combined for a 2 hit shutout. Way to go Siva, Jackson, Ryan, Ben and Sam. The offense was led by Ryan Wasserman who was 3 for 3 with an RBI. Also contributing on offense was Franco Dimilta 1 for 2 with an RBI and Jackson Benjamin, 1 for 2 with and RBI. There were many great plays in the field to preserve the shutout. Go Sharks!

 

New Hyde Park Little League Holds Annual Awards Breakfast

The New Hyde Park Little League, under the leadership of president Tom Pellegrino, held its annual awards breakfast at the Inn at New Hyde Park.

The large ballroom was packed with both boy and girl League participants surrounded by family and coaches.

The Blue Sharks started off their fall season right where they left off with a 16 to 1 victory. Five different pitchers combined for a one hitter. Way to go Jackson, Ben, Stephen, Jared and Demetris.  Great plays in the field by Kenny Hirschfeld behind the plate and at second base. Also great in the field was Stephen DeRocchis with a put out at first and nice running catch while pitching. Ryan Gaudio also made a nice running catch.

New Hyde Park Express Wins NJBL 10U Championship

In a showdown between the top 2 teams in the division, the Express outlasted the Long Island Gators for the Championship. They reached the finals after a 14-2 regular season and then defeated the Long Island Braves in a thrilling come from behind 5-4 victory. the pitching staff was anchored by Mike Lisojo, Conor Jacoby, Thomas Donnelly, Adrian Puran, Marty Koch and Paul Orbon. Michael Farrell also chipped in with a complete game against the Syosset Braves. Consistent hitting with several multi-hit games by Tyrell Robinson, Paul Orbon, Mike Lisojo and Mike Sokol led a balanced attack that used power, aggressive baserunning and timely sacrifice bunts by Joe Tomich, Timmy Brendel and Thomas Donnelly. Nick Duras did an outstanding job handling the pitching staff, throwing out runners and provide solid defense up the middle as the team continued to improve defensively throughout the year.

Best of Luck for the upcoming Labor Day Tournament as well as the fall NJBL season! We are so proud of all of you!

Merillon 8U Red Sharks Win National Junior Baseball League Championship

After a long summer season, the Red Sharks opened the playoff series against the number one seeded Oceanside Mariners. Five excellent innings from the starting pitcher Cenzo Montoni, gave the Red Sharks a 2 to 1 lead going into the 5th inning.  Scoreless  middle relief appearances by Justin Yang, Adrian Balkom, and Virag Shah gave the Merillon bats time to heat up. Mathew Merolla hit a 2 run homerun, Phil Schurr had a 2 out RBI, Christopher Piccirillo hit a long double into left scoring 2, Yanni Vlantis hit a rope to center scoring 2 and Danny McClellan hit a base-hit to right to add insurance runs. Defense was key to the victory as Matt Strocchia made great plays at third. Outfield play was also key as Paulie Depaulis and  Abideen Dauti tracked down liners in the outfield. The Oceanside victory led the Sharks to the title game.

 

Attention Golfers: ‘Twilight Special’ At County’s 9-Hole Golf Courses

Beginning Aug. 15, the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums will allow residents to play continuously from 4:30 p.m. until dark on any of the County’s four nine-hole golf courses.

This promotion is open to all Nassau County residents with a Leisure Pass. The fee is $15 per person and $8.50 for seniors.
