On Long Island a new tennis star is emerging. Mia Vecchio, 12, is a bright young girl who will be attending Herricks Middle School in New Hyde Park this fall.
Mia has had a passion for tennis ever since she was 5 years old and recently played in the USTA National Clay Court Championships in Florida where she won tennis match after tennis match.
Further, she recently attended the Zonals Tournament in Pennsylvania where she played an amazing tennis match. Mia has won numerous trophies, plaques, and medals for her accomplishments in tennis.
In order to stay on top of her game, during the summer, Mia trains on the courts at Herricks High School. During the winter she practices at Jericho Westbury’s indoor tennis courts. She trains with one of tennis’ greatest coaches, Alanna Broderick, who held the No. 1 ranking in Kingston, Jamaica, at age 14.
Both on the court and on a daily basis, Mia’s parents inspire her to achieve and accomplish all of her goals. During her free time, Mia enjoys her fair share of playing video games.
In the future, she wishes to become an advocate to assist all autistic children, including her 10-year-old brother, Rudy.
At the end of August, after her return from the USTA National Championship Game which takes place in Georgia, Mia will be trying out for her school’s Varsity Tennis Team.
