NHP Tornado Tigers Girls U11 Take Third Place at North Hempstead Tournament

The Tornado Tigers played short handed on Sunday but the determined girls tied Manhasset 1-1 in a very exciting game to take 3rd Place. The girls had the lead 1-0 midway through the 2nd half but the talented Manhasset team scored on a strong kick off a nice pass. Mariela Facibene made the save of the tournament with just a few minutes to play to preserve the tie. Debra Keller was excellent in goal in the first half shutting out Manhasset. The team played Sunday without two of their top defensive players Samantha Merino and Kimberly Keblish. The team also played without midfielder Abby Wizel. Sam and Kim both played terrific on Saturday when the Tornado Tigers won both of their games. In the final game Nicole Farishian scored the big goal for New Hyde Park off a nice cross from Maggie Donnelly. Nicole played her position perfectly and put a strong kick on the ball into the back of the net. Danielle Gerbe played terrific on defense and Maggie Donnelly and Milla Skugor played outstanding every minute on defense of both games on Sunday. Mariela and Debra took turns at goalie and midfield all day and played excellent soccer. Natalie Kariotis played center forward all day on Sunday and scored the first goal of the first game to put the Tornado Tigers up 1-0 against a very good team from Jericho. Jericho scored two 2nd half goals to win the game but the girls from New Hyde Park played their hearts out in the final game to come away with the 3rd Place medal.

Jennifer Morrone played just about all day Sunday at midfield stopping both teams and moving the ball to the offense. Emma Blancher played solid at forward including a nifty pull back and pass to give the team a scoring chance. Julia Gordon and Kristen Granieri played well all weekend at forward. Julia had a great shot off a corner kick that went just wide of the goal on Saturday. Milla Skugor scored the opening goal in both games on Saturday. Maggie Donnelly scored 3 goals on Saturday playing midfield including a steal and score off a goal kick from outside the 18 yard box. Maggie also scored on a penalty kick. Mariela and Debra played excellent in goal both days and they each scored goals on Saturday as New Hyde Park beat RVC to open the tournament, 3-1, then beat a tough team from Great Neck 4-2 in the 2nd game. On Saturday the team had their highest goal scoring day ever with 7 goals, most of them coming as a result of some very nice passing including a gorgeous through pass by Mariela to Nicole Farishian who moved the ball back to Mariela who scored the goal. This was a very exciting weekend for the girls from New Hyde Park, who take on a good team from Wantagh this weekend.

Soccer Stars vs. Kitty Kats

On a very warm October Sunday, an absolutely high level of soccer was played by The Soccer Stars. It was back and forth play between the Soccer Stars and the Kitty Kats with great runs made by both teams. Off a beautiful throw-in by Allison Liman down the middle of the field and a fast move by Irene Tsahas, around the defense with a breakaway against the goalie, Irene T. blasts a great shot to net her first goal of the game. Great teamwork Allison & Irene T. Outstanding defensive play by Channing Woo who marked her player very closely and terrific defensive blocks by Madeline Slaski breaking up the plays and running the ball to the outside and up to her offensive line led by Daniela O’Modie, Kassidy Keefe and Marcela Curcio. Kassidy Keefe playing very aggressive, making self passes to run around the Kitty Kats defense. The Kitty Kats playing a solid game, making nice passes between themselves and fast runs toward goal were able to tie up the game and then take the lead into the half. Down by one goal leading into the second half, the Soccer Stars kept their fire on from a goal punt from Irene Krische toward Irene Tsahas who made the trap and turned quickly around, making a dash toward goal marking her second beautiful goal of the game to tie up the match. Great teamwork Irene K. & Irene T.. Mid field plays by Shreya Rao and Lior Cole were solid, making sure the opponent was marked closely anchored by their defense and goalie. Irene Krische demonstrating outstanding goaltending skills, hugging the ball tightly, rolling to make that save while switching the field of play, coming out near the goal box to throw the ball/punt the ball to an open offensive team player. Marissa Cronin holding her position very well and coming forth toward the player to get the ball in her possession. Kitty Kats playing smart were able to take the lead but no for long as the Soccer Stars make the comeback once again with a nice pass from Kassidy Keefe and a sprint from I rene Tsahas who marked her third goal of the game to tie up the match @ three all and a Hat Trick for herself in the match. With a minute left to play, the Kitty Kats were able to make a run toward goal to net the winning goal. Great game by both teams. We are very proud of each & everyone of you! Thank You for the fruit Irene T. Thank You to our family & friends. Missed the help of Paden Dvoor & Isabella Mirro.
