Girls U10 - NHP Tornado Tigers at Ramapo
Valley Memorial Day Tournament

What a great day of soccer for the New Hyde Park Tornado Tigers. They played 4 games against some very good teams and finished with a win, a loss and two tie games. After losing to a strong team from Levittown in the opening game the Tornado Tigers tied the host team 1 to 1.

Mariella Facibene played terrific in goal. Maggie Donnelly scored the goal for the tie on an excellent corner kick by Kimberly Keblish. Jennifer Morrone played a strong game on offense. The third game was against the top team in the bracket, Lady Vikings from New Jersey.

After falling behind 2-0 the team rallied. Kimmie scored a goal on a strong kick in front after stealing the ball while the Vikings tried to push the ball to their offense. Milla Skugor scored the 2nd goal on a nice move around the defense and then a perfect shot into the corner of the net with the goalie coming out hard to stop the play. Trailing 3-2 late in the game Kimmie struck again, this time on a beautiful corner kick into the back of the net over the goalie. Nicole Farishian and Julie Gordon played strong games showing off good position play and out hustling the opponent. Debra Keller, despite being under the weather, played very well in goal to preserve the tie. The Tornado Tigers saved the best for last though. They beat a very strong team from Bedford, Ma. 1-0. The Bedford Blast put the pressure on the Tornado Tigers but the girls from New Hyde Park would not break. Isabelle Brenes scored the game winning goal on a strong kick from almost midfield. Mariella Facibene again played awesome in goal. The Tornado Tigers played the last game with only one sub and that one extra player could not play the last 15 minutes due to illness. The team was exhausted but they battled until the final horn. The defense played brilliant against a talented team and Danielle Gerbe came up with the play of the game. After Mariella left the goal to make a spectacular save, the ball bounced free to a Bedford forward who kicked the ball right to the net but Danielle came flying in from the opposite side to stop the ball just before the goal line. While Mariella and Danielle celebrated, the coach pulled his hair out and Isabelle Brenes made a heads up play to kick the ball up the field. The Tornado Tigers will battle the Manhasset Ladyhawks this Saturday at 10:20am at I Park.
