U-11 NHP Wildcats Tornado Tigers 2 Vs. Hewlett Cosmos 2

The Tornado Tigers started slowly in this one falling behind 2-0 but the girls battled back to earn the tie and a very close match. Emma Blancher scored the first goal for the Tornado Tigers just before the end of the first half. This was a great team goal with several Tornado Tigers pressuring the goal before Emma placed a perfect shot into the corner of the net. With the Tornado Tigers down 2-1 late in the 2nd half Debra Keller came through with a powerful kick giving the Hewlett goalie no chance. Maya Castro made a terrific move around a defender then placed a perfect pass in front of Debra who scored the goal to tie the game. Mariella Facibene played an excellent second half in goal for the Tornado Tigers after playing very well defending in the first half. Samantha Merino was terrific on defense stopping the top Hewlett forward several times in one on one situation. Kimberly Keblish played another solid game at stopper for the team. Maggie Donnelly, Milla Skugor and Abby Wizel were terrific all game for the Tornado Tigers each playing defender and mid fielder. Jennifer Morrone played well at mid field. The forwards showed very good passing. Nicole Farishian, Kristine Granieri and Natalie Kariotis all showed good footwork and improved passing giving the team several chances to score. The team plays at I-Park next Saturday at 11:30am against the Manhasset Ladyhawks.

U-10 Nhp Lady Pumas - 4, 
Garden City Hot Shots - 2

 The NHP Lady Pumas continued their winning ways with hard fought 4-2 win against a very solid Garden City opponent.  The girls have made it 5 in a row now as they continue to crash the net and play very solid D.  The offense was led by Sophia Leeds (The back-breaker goal, and 1 throw-in assist, very nice game!), Izzy Glennon (1 goal, 2 assists), Cara Becker (1 goal), Theodora Papadoniou (1 goal), and Katie Krems (3 shots on goal).  Casey Sanders played a great game at Center D and did a great job holding her line.  Stephanie Karczewski, Kira Crehan (1 assist), and Isabel Ugolini did a super job on the defensive wings, keeping GC at bay.  In goal was Edna Dudek who made 13 saves and some real tough saves.  Mackenzie Griffin - we missed you.

International Division

Galaxy 4 vs. Big Thunder 2 - The New Hyde Park Wildcats Boys U9 division playoffs commenced with some exciting matches.  The Galaxy won a close contest against Big Thunder with a score of 4-2.  Chris Carbone achieved a hat trick, three goals in one game.  Chris opened the scoring for Galaxy off a nice crossing pass from Thomas Donnelly.  Chris closed the scoring with a tough goal in traffic after Big Thunder had cut the lead to 3-2.  Nick Duras and Tommy Fitzpatrick were pressuring the Big Thunder goal when the ball moved to Chris who blasted in the final goal.  Nick Duras scored the other goal for the Galaxy using good footwork and a well placed kick.  Nick also played very well in goal for Galaxy in the first half.  Will Nikas and Eric Rossi were excellent in goal during the second half.  Eric had a terrific first half on defense, combining with Matthew Chung to limit Big Thunder’s scoring chances.  Tommy Fitzpatrick had an excellent game at forward, just missing a goal off a crossing pass from Thomas Donnelly who played an excellent all around for Galaxy.  It was a great team win for the Galaxy.  The boys passed the ball skillfully while holding their positions.  Collin Chung was in excellent position throughout the game.  Tyler Dauble pressured the Thunder defense, forcing several turnovers leading to Galaxy scoring opportunities.  The Galaxy will now play in the semi final game next Saturday at 9:15am against top-seeded Volcanos at Manor Oaks.
