The Nassau County Police Department's Eighth Squad reported details of an arrest for Kidnapping and Criminal Impersonation made on Tuesday, May 27 at 2:35 a.m. in Levittown.

According to detectives, at approximately 10 p.m., defendant Christopher Mackrodt, 31, of Levittown, phoned the Yellow Cab Company in Levittown and identified himself as a police officer and directed the dispatcher to tell a taxicab that he was following on Hempstead Turnpike to pull over. Mackrodt, who was driving a 1989 Mercury and carrying handcuffs and wearing a shirt with NCPD patches, allegedly pulled the cab over on Hempstead Turnpike and Gardiners Avenue in Levittown. Police reported that Mackrodt then displayed a handgun to the cab's passenger, a 39-year-old Farmingdale woman, and directed her into his own vehicle. The defendant then reportedly drove the victim around the Levittown area for approximately three hours before dropping her off at the Yellow Cab Company, where he again identified himself as a police officer, and directed the dispatcher to give the victim a ride home.

The dispatcher made a note of the defendant's vehicle and plate number and notified police. An officer later pulled over Mackrodt in Levittown and placed him under arrest. The officer reported Mackrodt was in possession of a fake police-type shield, lap top computer and BB gun.

Mackrodt was charged with DWI, as well as three counts of Criminal Impersonation 1st and Kidnapping 2nd and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Laws. He was arraigned on May 27 at First District Court in Hempstead where he pled not guilty and was released on $90,000 bail.
