The Division Avenue Girls’ Soccer Team finished the regular season in sixth place in county conference A1. This was good enough for the Lady Dragons to be seeded 6th out of 16th “A” classification teams.
In the first round of the playoffs Division beat Manhasset 2-1 in triple overtime on a goal from Ariana Wiengrad. Gina Fader made 12 saves, two of which came on breakaways. Outstanding defense was turned in by Kim Beattie, Taylor LeBright, Krysten Garcia, Grace Ginther, and Felicia Comuniello.
Leading the way at midfield was Alyssa Fiore, Miranda Pedroza, Michelle and Melissa Pedreros, and Jackie McCreary.
On Friday, Nov. 9 the Lady Dragons advanced to the quarterfinals of the Nassau County Playoffs. The girls faced a very tough Clarke High School team and lost 4-2 at Skelos Field. Division goals were scored by Erica Bleimeyer and Julia Kardonsky.

Audrey Zhang, a sixth grader at Island Trees Memorial Middle School, took home first place in the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) on Sept. 17. Zhang was honored at the Cradle of Aviation Museum for her work and was presented with a $500 check and an iPad Mini. Many dignitaries were on hand, including State Education Department Regent Roger Tilles.

Employees at the Levittown Public Library, with a talent for knitting, demonstrate their commitment to the community’s teens by making “amigurumi”—small knitted or crocheted stuffed toys—for use in the reading program.

The Island Trees Squirts Rockets U-6 team met with town officials, Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes at the 2014 Island Trees Soccer Club Opening Day Parade and Ceremony held at Stokes Elementary School. With six second half goals, the Farmingdale State Rams men’s soccer team picked up a 6-0 conference victory over the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons on Oct. 11, to improve to 5-8-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the Skyline. The visiting Gryphons fell to 2-9, 0-5 in conference play.
