The Long Island Marathon Weekend will be held May 3-5. The event has grown to include a full and half marathon, 10K, 5K, 1-mile run, and Kids Fun Run. The festivities begin on Friday, May 3 at 3: p.m. with a vendor expo at Mitchel Athletic Complex, followed by the Main Event “Carbohydration” Pasta Party at 6:30 p.m. courtesy of the Main Event Restaurant and Sports Bar. The races begin on Saturday, May 4, with the 1-mile run starting at 8 a.m. Shortly thereafter, the 5K will commence at 8:30 a.m. Both the 1-mile and the 5K races start on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. and finish at Mitchel Athletic Complex. The last race of the day, The Kids Fun Run, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the Mitchel track. On Sunday, May 5th, the marathon, half marathon and 10K will take place. All participants will assemble at the starting line on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. for an 8 a.m. start.
Advanced registration is available by mail until April 15 or online until April 28. Costs are as follows: Full Marathon $67; Half Marathon $57; 10K $37; 5K $32; 1-mile $19. Firehouse Subs announces the grand opening of its first Long Island location in Levittown on Oct. 17. Four Division Avenue High School seniors have signed national letters of intent to play baseball at local universities next fall. All four players were instrumental in winning the 2014 Nassau County Championship.
Tyler Epple has committed to play baseball at Concordia University. He is a two-year starter as third baseman for the Blue Dragons and was named All-Conference as a junior player. Epple currently boasts a batting average of .357 with 19 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
