In addition, Assemblyman David McDonough held the 2nd Annual Veterans Hall of Honor at the Merrick Public Library just a couple of weeks before the Veterans Day holiday to honor veterans who go above and beyond the call of duty.
This year, McDonough honored 22 local veterans from his district. Two of this year’s honorees are residents of Levittown, both members of Levittown’s American Legion Post 1711, John Brady and Mario Dell’Aera.
Brady served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era and continued his service by joining the Army and Navy Reserves. He has been a member of Post 1711 for more than 25 years, has served as an officer of the post, and is currently the post’s vice commander. Brady serves as the post liaison to two Cub Scout packs and is the coordinator of programs for children with special needs. He also serves as a driver for the county’s veteran services program.
U.S. Air Force veteran, Dell’Aera, has been a member of Post 1711 for more than 14 years and is devoted to serving his community with an emphasis on the post’s Americanism Awards Program. He is a founding member of the post’s flag etiquette program that is taught in the Levittown School District.
Dell’Aera has served as post official several times. He serves as Color Guard for the post and for the county, including as trumpeter at memorial and funeral services. He regularly participates in Day at the Races at the Northport VA and helps with the post’s food collections for the needy.
